About me
My name is Steph. I'm 22 years old and live in Somerset, UK.
I'm a Qualified Veterinary Nurse and work full time in the industry. I absolutely love my job and have a particular interest in exotic species and anaesthesia.
I also run a pet portrait photography business, Toogood Photography, and a rat art and accessories business, Toogoods Tiny Paws.
I have 7 rats, a cat called Tonto, a hamster called Bobby, a dog called Bobby (yes, confusing!) and a welsh section D pony called Pepsi. Animals have always been my biggest love and passion since I was very young, and being surrounded by them gives me a big sense of happiness.
My hobbies include playing the piano, horse riding, drawing and of course, breeding rats!
I have had rats since 2016. I adopted my first two rats from pets at home and later learnt why that was a bad decision. My first rats were lovely, but came with problems. Owning them enabled me to join rat care facebook groups and I learnt an incredible amount about rat care and ethics. I now couldn't be without rats. I adopted my future rats from rescues and breeders.
I started doing research into breeding and genetics in 2019 out of interest. In 2020, I was given the opportunity to rear a litter for a breeder, with that litter fathered by one of my pet rats. It was an incredible experience, however the breeder I was being mentored by wasn't as ethical as I thought they were. Although, this experience has proved invaluable in my breeding journey, as I learnt a lot about what not to do.
I have since been in contact with multiple fantastic breeders who have encouraged and helped me to get to a position where I am ready to breed.
